He participated with the Subordinate Courts of Singapore in its innovative transpacific judicial video settlement conference program.
The Daily Journal recognized Judge Peterson as a “Top Master Neutral” for 2013 and in 2006, 2007, 2008, 2009 and 2010 Judge Peterson was selected by the Daily Journal as one of the Top 50 Neutrals in California.

“Judge Peterson is always professional and excellent. We use him frequently and think he is one of the best mediators in California.”
“Judge Peterson is a gentleman’s gentleman. He was always very calm on the bench, which is something he’s certainly carried over into his mediation today, and he’s just always had tremendous respect for both sides. Judge Peterson’s calm demeanor in my room has helped me get many cases resolved where I thought ‘There’s no way this is ever going to settle.”
“Judge Peterson’s tall, silver-haired appearance makes him look like he came straight out of central casting for a judge. He just has an exceptional presence in the course of a mediation, and he has a very nice way about him. And ultimately, the mediator’s job is not to dictate a result. It’s to cajole and pressure and arm twist the two sides into a compromise. In my opinion, Judge Peterson has been very skillful in knowing the difference between dictating a result – which is not good and won’t work – and being candid with the parties about their prospects for success or failure.”
“Judge Peterson’s extensive background on the bench gives him an invaluable authoritative but also unbiased perspective. I don’t know exactly how Judge Peterson works his magic with bereaved families or injured plaintiffs – people who are angry, people who are processing feelings of frustration and distrust and sometimes regret. But he’s able to manage all that and help people understand how resolving a case at a number the defendant – my client – can live with is something that’s ultimately in their best interest.”
